Garbage service is provided on a weekly basis. Through July 1, 2022, Recycling and Green Waste are collected on alternating weeks on the same day of the week as Garbage. Beginning July 4, 2022, the Green Waste cart will become the Organic Waste cart. The Organic Waste cart will be serviced weekly on the same day as the Garbage service (Learn more...). Recycling will still be collected every other week (Week A or Week B). Place containers curbside no later than 5:30 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Please place containers on the street side as shown below, so they do not block pedestrian use of sidewalks. Keep containers a minimum of 6 feet away from cars, boats, and other stationary objects to avoid risk of private property damage.

Please remove containers from the curb after they are emptied on collection day.
Citrus Heights residents are provided with weekly garbage service. Residents have a choice of a 32-, 64-, or 96-gallon garbage container. Residents are also provided with mixed recycling and green waste collection containers. The standard green waste and mixed recycling carts are 96-gallon, but residents may request smaller containers if desired. The price will not change.
Republic Services will replace your carts up to one time per year if it has been lost, stolen, or damaged. Note: If your cart is dirty, but functioning properly and all parts are undamaged, it may not qualify for a free replacement. To request any type of repair or replacement for garbage, green waste, or mixed recycling containers, please contact Republic Services customer service by calling 916-725-9060.
- Materials must fall freely from a container when dumped.
- Containers may not be serviced if they are overfilled, are not accessible, or include hazardous or unacceptable materials.
Mandatory Garbage Collection Service
The City has an ordinance that states garbage collection service is mandatory for all homes and buildings. This ordinance is typical in most cities and counties throughout the country. Mandatory garbage collection preserves public health and safety, and enhances the community.
Sometimes there are circumstances when it is appropriate to suspend garbage service for a time. In these cases, property owners can apply for a temporary exemption from garbage collection service. Examples include:
- House fire or other condition that has caused the home to become uninhabitable
- Extended vacancy where no one will be living in the home*
*Garbage service exemptions are NOT to be used for properties on the market for sale, or for rental properties.
